In 2020 I had the pleasure of meeting who I believe is the most wonderfully free-spirited person I have ever met. She has become a friend and I look forward to seeing her every year in Fairbanks. She spends the remainder of the year “playing” around the world. I recently saw a post she put on Face Book and I thought it would be fun to introduce her to all of our Ice Alaska readers. Her name is Seanna Cookus.
Here is her post: “Today in Alaska I was able to check off another personal goal and bucket list item. I finally got the opportunity to operate our zoom boom!!! Just got to know the machine and how it handles and moves and how to gently pick up giant 3000 pound blocks of ice and place them elsewhere. Plus I thought it looked like a fun machine to operate. Moving giant ice cubes is quite different from moving pallets and normal things. So yeah… good times in Alaska!!! “
In another post she talks about harvesting the ice: “This is kind of what Ice Harvest looked like for me at first today… my first try harvesting ice out of a pond in a zoom boom …intimidating but I quickly re evaluated my situation… realized I was reaching another goal in my life adventures… and fell in love with this crazy machine Definitely need to learn some finesse, but what a rush!!!”
Seanna comes to Fairbanks to volunteer at the Boot Camp and Ice Alaska loves her. She is one of the hardest workers they have. She loves all the heavy machinery and has probably driven all the machines. Enjoy her zoom boom challenges.
