2. Step 2: Make & Trace a Template. Cut a template out of cardboard or wood into whatever shape you want to cut. …
3. Step 3: Chisel Out the Shape. Starting from the outside edges take out small amounts of ice using the chisel. …
4. Step 4: Enjoy.
I wonder if the world’s best ice artists started out that way.

It’s Monday, February 24th. In just a few hours the horn will blow, indicating the end of the 2025 Double Block Ice Carving Competition. Compared to the Multiblock, the time seems so short, but what is now being created by our incredible carvers is truly breathtaking and spectacular. The carvers from Japan and the first-place winners from the Philippines continue to carve sculptures that are airy, elegant and graceful, just like their multiblock pieces. As I’ve mentioned before, the double block entries seem so much more distinctive, unique and individual than the multiblock. Personalities are showing themselves.
I do sound like I like Double Block, don’t I? I watched a sculptor for the longest time today and couldn’t quite figure out what he was doing. It turns out he was putting ice hairs on a spider’s legs.  Would that have happened in Multiblock?  I asked another sculptor how he came up with his idea. His answer was “because my son turned ten on Valentine’s Day”.
Come to the ice park and decide which of these amazing artistic creations is your favorite.
