Well, the Multi Block is almost finished. We are all eager to see the final masterpieces of these incredible artists. While walking through the woods tonight there was almost a feeling of calm. It was very quiet. The sculptors are working on small things now, so you don’t feel the hustle and bustle you did before. Big pieces have been or will be moved and all will be finished at 10:00 tomorrow evening.
I thought it might be fun to learn a bit more about Harbin, China. Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is an event held from January to early March in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China and is the largest ice and snow festival in the world. The festival includes the world’s biggest ice sculptures. At night there are illuminated full size buildings made from blocks of 2-3 feet thick ice taken from the Songhua River. The park covers an area of 810,000 square meters. Their idea is to create a set of ice and snow art, ice and snow culture, ice and snow performances, ice and snow architecture, ice and snow activities, ice and snow sports in an ice and snow paradise. The event is based on the ancient tradition of ice lantern making. Some of the activities are the snow Ferris wheel, a super ice slide, and an ice-Snow show. Other activities include alpine skiing and winter swimming in the river. In 2007, the festival was awarded Guinness World Record for the world’s largest snow sculpture. It measured 28 feet high and used over 13,000 cubic meters of snow. What an amazing place to visit.
One more “ice” fact: What is the coldest place in the world? It is Antarctica, where temperatures can dip below minus 133.6° Fahrenheit.
We love Ice Alaska and our ice carving competition. Come by tomorrow in time to watch the final moments of the 2025 Multi Block competition. Amazement and an “ah” or two are guaranteed.
