Artists in Training

Written by Lee Ellen King

The Collegiate Ice Carving Competition has concluded for 2024. These six students from Oregon Coast Culinary Institute, mentored by Chris Foltz, are on their way to becoming true ice carving artists. Chris is a world champion ice carver so his students have an exemplary role model from whom to learn. Their finished sculptures are imaginative, fun, well done and beautiful. The first place winner is “Nope Rope” by Austin Matthews. At the award ceremony he thanked his sister for letting him use her pet snake as his model for his sculpture. Second place is awarded to “Mischievous Gargoyle” by Maximus G’Acha. Third place is an adorable little bubble head, “A Fish out of Water” by Skyeler Martius. Congratulations to all the Collegiate competitors. You are so talented and on your way to big things in your lives.
