Oregon Coast Culinary Institute is sponsoring a group of culinary students in the Ice Alaska Collegiate Competition. Their mentor is Chris Foltz, an award winning artist in the World Ice Carving Championship. He is a member of the 2024 first place winner, “Eyes of Demise”.
Before their competition began yesterday, the students were working with Seanna Cookus. She explained to them how the ice park is built, about Boot Camp and how to do park maintenance such as fixing broken sculptures and worn down slides. She said, “I was getting them excited about their competition and then I set them free on the park to decorate and finish up sculptures.” They then had the opportunity to do some snow sculpting.
There are six competitors visiting from Oregon this year. They are:
- Simon Lukianov “Lion”
- Maximus G’Acha “Mischievous”
- Brianna Fuentes “The Rider of Icebergs”
- Jenna Johan “The Thing”
- Austin Matthews “Nope Rope”
- Skyler Martin “A Fish out of Water”
How wonderful to be able to chat with Heather, an award winning artist/sculptor.
