07 Single-Block
07 Single Block at the Finish Line It was 9:00 pm on Friday night and the finish of the Single Block Classic was only 30 minutes away. I took my camera and ran through the first 26 sculptures befor the battery on my camra froze in the cold night air.

07 Multi-Block

• 24 Hours- Just 24 hours 'til the close of the World Ice Art Championship Multi-block competition. The pace of work has quickened. Sanders, chain-saws and chisels fill the chilled night air with their chorus. Its about 3 degrees below zero and there is a light breeze. I'm bundled up like a snowman and my camera is wrapped in a heated muffler.

• A few finished early and one just ran out of time but most of the competitors worked at a feverish pace right up until the sound of the horn. Chisels came to a final rest and after a short clean-up everyone left the park. For the next four hours a small hand full of judges would independantly evaluate the collection piece by piece.

06 Multi-Block

• 24 Hours - The last day of the multi-block and the temp drops to minus thirty over night. In spite of the deepening cold, the sculptors stay with their art. See the artists at work.
• White Light -There is but a brief time between the end of the competition when the pieces are being judged and the time when the lights are colored. This has come to be called the White Light period. Many artists consider this period to be the best time to really view the sculptures artistically.
